HeartBeat started as a percussion band, formed in 1989. As one of the premier percussion bands in Singapore, the band has been actively promoting percussion music performance and education through participation in a while range of local and overseas events and festivals.
In Singapore, the band has been actively involved in Singapore Arts Festivals, Annual Chingay Street Parades, Independence Day Concerts, as well as various national and corporate events. On the international stage, HeartBeat has also represented Singapore through performance and feature workshops in various levels of arts/music festivals in Malaysia, Egypt, South Korea, Turkey, Japan, USA and Ireland.
In the field of Arts Education, HeartBeat is a well-known pioneer in bringing percussion music to the Schools under the country’s National Arts Council – Arts Education Programme Scheme, offering percussion programme genres ranging from Latin, Alternative, Local Ethnic, Folk and Global Community Drum Circle. Recently, HeartBeat has just extended its education outreach beyond Singapore shores, to the Middle East.
In the area of community music, HeartBeat is a strong advocator for using rhythm as an artistic tool to create happy occasions with people from all walks of life. The team pioneered the movement of community drum circle in Singapore and it has brought music and joy to many who never dreamt of playing music.
Comprising of a team of passionate and unique individuals, the band prides itself to be an organization that comprises of all-rounded practicing musicians who perform, teach, facilitate, write and administrate.
