Born in Gujarat, India he was brought up in a profusely musical atmosphere and learnt the Tabla under the guidance of Shri Torun Banerjee. Later he taught in a music school in south of India where he has performed with several well-known artists.
After completing his University studies in India, he is settled in Italy and performs all over Europe, like in France, Spain, Switzerland, Germany, Denmark, Sweden... accompanying wonderful musicians like S.Shankar and Krishna Bhatt on Sitar, masters of Sarod like D.Ghosh and K. Shridhar, Veena player Vemu Mukunda and has collaborated with the kings of percussion Zakir Hussein and Trilok Gurtu.
For the Indian cultural events in Italy he is in constant collaboration with the Embassy of India in Roma. He organizes also seminars and workshops on Indian Music in Conservatories. He has had collaborations with the National TV of Italy, Denmark and India.
Rashmi is fascinated by the fusion of different musical languages and genres and has worked with various western musicians like M. Stockhausen and F.Grillo.
In the recent Festival of World Music in Bari called “Time Zones” he accompanied the famous singer of Qawali from Pakistan Ustd Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Michael Brook. He has also accompanied the renowned sitarist and musicologist Pandit A. Parikh from Bombay and the great Indian flutist Pandit H.P. Chaurasia. He has participated in the International Festival of Music at Malmo, Sweden and in Cuba in 1997 for the World Food Day Concert organized by F.A.O (Roma) live telecast all over the world.
He is art-director of the “world-rhythm-festival” and various musical festivals in Italy. Recently he organized a big world -music-event in India/Bombay.
Since summer 2003 he is working together with Mohammad Eghbal and the world-music-group AHURA, where he found high ethic and spirit combined with a developed musical art.
